We actually came to this park last year, but it was pretty gloomy out, the kids were grumpy, and the splash pad was already off for the season. So on a bright and warm morning, with a cheery toddler we set out again.
I knew that the splash pad was closer to Avenue Brown rather than the actual parking lot off of Rue Pie-XII, so that’s where we left the car, and were rewarded with another of Vaudreuil-Dorion’s adorable Boîte à lecture lending libraries on our walk up the hill.
There’s no fencing around the play areas, but the big-kid area is sightly back from the road, the splash pad is down a little incline, and the toddler section is wayyyyyyy in the back corner, tucked beside some large trees.
We trotted across the green field, and past the baseball field and the porta-pottie to the little toddler playground. This area is all on sand and is in need of some TLC. I liked the big trees shading the picnic table and benches, but most of the play equipment was in full sun. The climber by GameTime has a pod to step onto the platform and to reach the slides. But some of the equipment is missing (the steering wheel), and some is broken (hand grips on the climbing wall). In the surrounding sand are big and baby swings. Felling a little underwhelmed, we ran back across the field to the big-kid park where the little one enjoyed the climber a bit more, though he couldn’t actually reach much. This one features sky wheels, a climbing wall, metal ladders, slide, and a chain climbing wall. It was ok. In the sand are also two baby and two big swings.
The star of the playground is the splash pad with products by Waterplay Solutions. It’s obviously well used as the concrete paint job is in need of a fresh coat, but there are some great products here including the Sneaky Soaker dumping buckets, the I-Spy Storm which is fun to watch fill up and overflow, ground sprays, Team Blaster water cannons (though one is being repaired), and a very, very cool waterfall feature.
The water is on everyday from 9am-8pm.
NEW IN 2017: The city has installed “toy-sharing” bins in the playground where you can borrow toys while you play, or bring unused toys from home to share with others. You can read more about it HERE.
