Fifth Park

We first visited this park in Spring of 2015, noted that it was pretty bleak and everything was covered in spiders and webs (though there’s great shade!), and it looked like no one had ever played in it.

Then we read this in Pointe Claire’s Spring/Summer 2015 Newsletter!
REDESIGNING PARKS AND PLAYGROUNDS
In order to keep parks and children’s playgrounds in top condition, the City intends to carry out work this year in two parks, Clearpoint and Fifth.
Equipment that has reached the end of its useful life will be replaced and new play areas, designed for different age groups, will be added. General landscaping will be improved, and, in particular, protective surfaces in children’s play areas will be replaced. Lighting systems will be upgraded in Clearpoint Park.

It took a while but the playground has just reopened (late October 2015).
They’ve redone the surfacing and added wood chips under most of the equipment, while there is still sand under the baby swings and spring riders.
There is also a newly-done path with some soon-to-grow gardens.

They’ve added in a new climber by Quebec-based Jambette and though the attached sign says a maximum capacity of 13 children (from 18 months to 5 years), that’s pretty laughable. Unless they also mean on the roof. This is pretty much the smallest possible model of climber and might safely fit 2 toddlers on the platform. There are no stairs, only a ladder (UPDATED June 2016! after having a few people complain to ME, I asked the city to switch the ladders to stairs, and they have! I added in two new pictures to the photo gallery). At the top is a steering wheel, slide, and underneath is a small ledge/window.
Also added is the vertical metal-rungs climbing wall, a small stool/table combo, and two new spring riders. The baby and big swings are still in the same spots. And, the two big swings are installed at different heights which is rather neat.

This is for sure not a destination park, and older kids will probably be bored here. Even though the new climbing structure is cute and colourful, it’s smaller than most backyard climbers.

The great thing here is that it is fully fenced AND gated and is therefore nice and safe for runners. This park doesn’t show up on Google Maps, but it is on Fifth Avenue just north of Lakeview Avenue.
