Glenn J. Nashen Park

Named for current Municipal Councillor Glenn J. Nashen (now in his sixth term!), this quiet little park on Chemin Wavell/Avenue Melling is a good spot for toddlers. Fully fenced – but with an open gate right at the road – there’s a ton of shade, kid-sized equipment, and is surrounded by mature trees and hundreds of flowering hostas.

My little guy ran straight for the Choo-Choo Climber, where I wasn’t allowed on until I produced a ticket. Thankfully the Tim Horton receipt in my pocket was acceptable and I was allowed on for “One stop only!”, and was then kicked off to go and sit on a bench. So I puttered around taking pictures while he “Choo-CHOO!”-ed his way around the city. The train tracks run right behind the park, so it would have been super cool had a train actually gone by 😉

In the surrounding sand is a little stairs-and-slide climber, a small rope teepee-style climber, two baby swings, and a seen-better-days seesaw from Kompan. The new versions of this model are made of plastic and metal, though the one here is made of wood which is starting to get splintery. Some sanding and a coat of paint would give it a few more years.
And no, I’m not volunteering!
