Sandy Beach

EDITED SUMMER 2021: THis beach closes, opens, closes. Please check with the Town before heading out this way.

One of the things I love about wandering around and finding parks and playgrounds is finding places like THIS.

We visited here way back in 2015 when the piglets were much smaller…

…Awwwwww.

It had been a while since we’d been out this way, and a sunny Saturday morning had us craving a huge breakfast somewhere new. Le Cozy Café on Main Street in Hudson Village was the perfect choice (it’s so pretty!) and we lugged our full stomachs back to the car and drove the short distance to the entrance to the beach. You USED to be able to park at Jack Layton Park, and walk through forest and along the boardwalks, but that trail is currently closed (when I wrote this mid-August 2019), so drive down Rue Royalview and there’s another entrance to the (stroller friendly) walking trails, or just go further directly to the beach where it’s literally a one minute walk from where you can park along the road. Watch for the no-parking signs!

There are porta-potties, including one that’s wheelchair-accessible and a large sign with the rules: NO dogs between certain hours (which is basically all day), NO swimming, no fires etc.
In the soft sand – much of which is shaded by tall trees – you’ll find some new picnic tables and an outstanding views of the Outaouais River and Oka.

The sign to the beach states “NO SWIMMING” as there are no lifeguards on duty and the water is not tested, so the boys stayed close to shore and just got their feet wet as they played with rocks and searched for sticks.
This is a great spot for a picnic, playing in the sand, and looking at the view.

Thanks for all the info, we enjoyed a fantastic day at the beach! We parked closer to the beach given that we have an infant and don’t own a fancy wagon (yet). We arrived around 11am on a holiday Sunday and the beach was pretty empty. It filled in towards the end of the day but there was still plenty of space. Lots of people were in the water, it stays shallow pretty far so it’s great for playing in the water but it would be tough to truly ‘swim’. The view was incredible and I loved watching the boats go by all day long. A real gem!

(Although I will say there were a lot of dogs, not a problem for us but might be for others)
