We were pretty excited to see that the water was still on in the splash pad on September 3rd (not sure how much longer though).
We checked out the different pictures on the painted floor, walked along the colourful pathways and stuck our hands in the fun jets shooting out of the ground. There are also dumping buckets (which the little one hates), a “fun-o-meter” with horizontal spray, an “aim at your brother” water cannon, and a misty ring to run through. Beside the splash pad area are FIVE picnic tables set in the grass, and then there is the toddler area (on sand), big swings (on wood chips), and a big-kid area (on sand).
We passed the big-kid swing set with its adaptive swing (no seat belt on this one), and then tried to climb the big climber from Miracle Recreation. This one has metal ladders and rungs, and a swingy tensile ladder to get up. There are a couple of slides (the Big Timber Hollow Log Slide and a twirly Typhoon slide) and crazy scary looking metal Hula rings to climb across between the two sections. My small guy was able to get up the “easiest” ladder with me spotting him from an inch away, and loved the pretend treasure map, lanterns, and canteen at the top of the log slide. Underneath it you can spot critters peering out from their houses.
After playing with the drinking fountain for 5 minutes we were finally ready to play on the toddler climber. This is a pretty small climber from Jambette but has quite a lot on it. There is a tiny staircase with railing, shorter than normal monkey bars, a steering wheel, slides, ladders, binoculars, and a ground level “restaurant” ledge. It’s always a restaurant to us, you can make it a…..ticket station if you want! There are a couple of spring riders in the surrounding sand as well as two more big swings as well as two baby swings.
No fencing at all though parts of it are bordered by houses and their fences. Also, no shade.
-The splash pad is on from 9am-8pm daily. Press the sensors to turn on the water.
NEW IN 2017: The city has installed “toy-sharing” bins in the playground where you can borrow toys while you play, or bring unused toys from home to share with others. You can read more about it HERE.
