Jerry Shears Park

After a morning of puttering around Saint-Laurent we had time for just one more park before heading home for a nap (his not mine). Finding this one nearby we parked on Rue Pierre Dagenais (you can also access the park from rue Robert-Choquette) and headed past the new park sign (love these!) with information about Jerry Shears and trotted past the large grove of mature trees to the toddler playground.
The whole park is outfitted with products from Kompan and I like the juxtaposition of modern metal with the the natural elements like the rocks, trees and the coolest thing: the stone foundation of an old house that they’ve left intact.

The toddler area has a great climber with easy to access platforms leading up to the mini slide, steering wheel and tactile walls. We played “restaurant” underneath and then the little guy made his way up and across the rope wall. In the surrounding sand are baby swings and a spinner bowl, which always make me feel nauseous just to look at. There’s no fencing around the individual play areas, but everything is wayyyyy back from the road and there are the fences of the surrounding houses all around the perimeter.

Past the towering trees (which seem to be mostly ash trees, so I’m nervous about what will happen to them 🙁 ) we came to the big-kid playground. Here you’ll find swings, a Supernova spinner, and TWO climbers. Both are challenging and have some tricky ways to get up and/or across. There’s the vertical rock wall, the twisting ladder, or the metal rungs. They were all just beyond us, so we settled for exploring the building ruins. I love that they left this because it’s interesting and is a great teaching tool for kids.

We were so comfy and calm that we stayed for quite a while, but then it started to get too sunny, and oh ya…nap time!
Though we visited before the leaves were out on the trees, I think there will be minimal, if any shade over the actual playgrounds.
Also, if you want to do a “park tour” you can follow the path down to Philippe-Laheurte Park (which is one of our favourites).
