la Renaissance Park

Eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!
In short, we loved it.
This park has so much going for it. Original, new, age appropriate equipment. Shade, “horses”, and all around fun.

We turned up from Sherbrooke and I did a double take as this was way more than I was expecting.
My mom grew up in Lachine, but I seldom visit except to see my eye doctor on Notre Dame or to watch the Cedar’s Cancer Dragon Boat races on the canal in September.
After this visit to la Renaissance Park, we can’t wait to see more of what Lachine has park-wise!

The toddler section is spectacular. Really, this park is going in my Top Ten. There is a great climber by Playworld with stairs, ladders, steps, and a climbing mountain; and then multiple slides to get down. And if they want to do the long route, they can start at the small stand-alone climbing wall and then traverse the “butterfly” steps.
There’s a fat little pony ride on and……a mom-propelled merry-go-round. A MERRY-GO-ROUND! The “horses” are made of recycled rubber so they don’t get hot and are fairly comfy for chubby toddler thighs.
Off to the side in the grass are a couple of ground-level activities. There’s the PlayTown Play House (where I got served a “coffee”), and the PlayTown Music Store. This one has drums and bells, and things to turn. So fun for a busy little one. My only complaint was it would have been great had this been placed somewhere wheelchair accessible.
There are also four baby swings.
The toddler section had some good shade when we were there at 10am, and it is fenced all along the street side but open towards the middle.

Across the sort of courtyard and within sight of the toddler area, is the big kid climber. It’s huge, spread out, and with tons to do.
So shiny! So new! So fun!
There are endless ways to climb and scale and swing. The slides are fantastic with the triple slide all set at different heights! I’ve never seen that in our travels. My little guy couldn’t do much as there are no stairs and even the ladders were too high, but bigger kids will go wild over it. Ok, *I* went wild over it.
There is a stand-alone rock climbing wall, but curiously, no big-kid swings!
There was shade along the edges, but not over the play structure, and no fencing on this side.
Both play areas are on wood chips with no sand in sight.

I guess this park is a mixture of old and new. The little gazebo seemed like it has stood there a while, as well as what I’m assuming must be some sort of fountain(?) at the entrance to the park.

We were so happy with this park we’ll be visiting again soon 🙂

Lasalle park in Lachine is getting a splash pad (finally!) and a picnic area. Its skate park is great.

The penninsula is great for biking/walking/scooter-ing.

And probably the coolest thing to do in the summer is to take the boat, cross St Laurent and spend the day at the nature reserve in Chateauguay. F U N

Want a goooood, strong coffee? H8S is amazing.

Yeah, I kinda like Lachine 🙂

Hi, and thanks for the comments!

Lasalle Park’s skate park is pretty great. My mom actually grew up across the street so there are some old-timey photos of the park in its post.

And is it getting a real (public accessible) splash pad? Or just the wading pool redone, as I believe you have to be a resident to use the wading pool 🙁
I’ll have to go for a visit again…

And funnily, that nature park is one of the top things to do on my “summer to-do list”. I’ll be writing about it after 😉
Thanks for the coffee suggestion, I’ll check it out!

We are planning to make a special trip out to Lachine to visit this park with some other families with toddlers. Afternoon is the best time that works for all of us. Would you know if on a sunny day the slides in the toddler section would get too hot to use? A problem in many parks in the summer!

Oh boy. Good question. We did visit on a sunny day, but it was morning and you can see that some of the slides are in shade. They’re beige so may not be TOO hot in the afternoon but I make no guarantee! I’d suggest bringing a towel, and if they ARE hot, the kids could use the towel like a sled.

      • Patricia Yam says:

Never heard of the towel trick before! I bet that wil make them slide fast! Thanks for your reply.

I live in Lachine and I didn’t know about this park. Saw your review, went there this evening, we had a blast! My 3 yo loved it! And the fountain-water splash was amazing, it cools down the area and it’s good fun for the kids. So thank you!
