Marcel-Laurin Park & Bassin de la Brunante

We explored this area back in the Fall of 2014 and returned in 2015. After parking on Boulevard Poirier near the Bassin de la Brunante and went and explored the 15 hectare woods and 2km of trails. In the heart of the Saint-Laurent’s industrial park, this is a beautiful oasis that since 2005 has been a protected ecological site. The paths are mostly hard-packed wood chips with a couple of stairs along the way on some bridges/boardwalks. Doable with a stroller but there’ll be a bit of lifting. It’s not a huge woods but was nice for an afternoon stroll.
The boys peeked in the “bug hotel”, watched the monarch butterflies as they fed on milkweed (the 7 hectares of milkweed are an important stop on their migration route), found a water fountain near the edge of the forest (close to the football field), peered in the windows of the modern and impressive library that is on the south side (you’ll see the staircase), and then went back to see the waterfall at Bassin de la Brunante. It would have been nice to see some animals but my boys are the opposite of stealthy!
More than 110 species of birds live in the woods.
The pictures in the gallery are a mixture of last year and this year.

p.s. there is NO playground here, but there are soccer and football fields to run around in, as well as benches and picnic tables for snacks.

Good news for 2016. The park has received 70,000$ for the protection of the biodiversity of the park. You can read about it HERE.

See the information pamphlet HERE and map of the walking trails HERE
And you can read lots more about the park on Saint-Laurent’s website

The park is supported by the Fondation Hydro-Québec pour l’environnement, and is overseen by the Éco-quartier de Saint-Laurent and the Comité Écologique du Grand Montréal.
