Maxville, Ontario – Centennial Playground

If you happen to be at the Glengarry Highland Games in early August (and you should be!) you can take a break from the haggis eating and caber tossing with a visit to these TWO parks. One is just in front of the Maxville arena, with the other just around the corner beside the soccer and baseball fields. Maxville is a small friendly town which swells in size and spirit during the annual highland games. Maxville is proud of its Scottish heritage and driving down main street you’ll notice the clan tartans on the lamposts. There’s also Muir’s Scottish Bakery & Tea Room (originally from Verdun, Quebec) and Celtic Treasures.

Now on to the parks!

A surprisingly impressive array of playground equipment for the size of the town. Toddler and big-kid climbers in front of the arena, with swings, a ride-on chipmunk (?), and a tire swing and zipline. There are benches and picnic tables with washrooms and water fountains inside the arena.
Then head down the gravel road just behind the arena and there’s a new playground with a fun big-kid climber with a rock climbing wall, wobbly walk across doodads, and a separate spiderwed.
Bonus: Porta potties!
Special note!: The Maxville Fairgounds are where the significant other and I got married! In the rain. And the cold. But was still a good time as we held up the arbour during our vows lest it fly away 🙂
