Montgomery Park

We’ve passed by this park a few times, but there was always construction fencing cordoning it off.
Finally, this time the park was open. And it was pretty good.
Just off of Sources Boulevard, this park is on a quiet street and has some nice shade over the southern side covering part of the playground. We were there around 11am on a super sunny morning, and while the picnic tables and toddler climber were sunny, much of the other equipment was shaded by the mature trees.

There was some really interesting equipment here. Two climbers from Little Tikes Commercial, one for toddlers and one for bigger kids, and BOTH with easy to climb stairs.
The toddler climber has a twirly and straight slide, and two activity walls (the alphabet in sign language and an animal matching game). My older one tried to spell out his name by signing. I’m not sure what he said but it might have been right!
Just behind the climber is a ride-on bulldozer that got a lot of squeals from the littlest, and behind that are a couple of baby swings. I’m not sure what HAPPENED to the swings, but they look like they’ve been run over by a truck and then placed back on the chains. This was the only part of the park that we didn’t like as they were pretty impossible to sit in.

The larger climber (with stairs. Yeah!) was good for both kids. There were double straight slides, a corkscrew ladder, monkey bars, some fun disks to climb (the Pommel Climber), and a really fast twirly slide.

Now…..what we LOVED here are the picnic tables by Playworld. Really! I was so excited about them that I actually showed my husband the pictures when we got home. They are brilliant.
They are basically three levels. A short bench for toddlers, regular bench for adults, a space for a wheelchair, and……a place to sit a baby. BUILT INTO THE TABLE. I tried to stuff my kids into the baby seat, but neither of them would cooperate. Ungrateful. And I’d just bought them Timbits!
And then in the same little picnic table/bench section is a concrete mushroom table and stools set. So cute.
I was actually able to sit down for a bit and watch them both play as the climbers are set close together. And then I played too because it was fun.

There is NO fencing around any of the park. It’s not a super busy street, but everything, especially all of the grassy area, is very close to the road.

Thanks to reader Erica for sending me photos of the FINISHED rubber flooring area as it hadn’t been done when we visited. She sent me the photos of the big kid swings, the Inclined Web Crawler and the flying saucer Oodle swing from Landscape Structures. Pictures in the gallery! So this area IS accessible, but not a whole lot to do for kids with reduced mobility.

The fenced off part has been like that since the fall. I pass by that park almost daily and haven’t seen any work done at all this spring. Hopefully they open soon, my daughter is itching to get in there!

That’s disappointing! It really looks like all they need to do is add the border and either wood chips or sand. Time to do some letter writing to Roxboro!

Pretty much the day after I left the comment, trucks showed up and got to work. The new part is now open, and it’s over rubber flooring, so wheelchair accessible!
