Nicolas Viel Park

This park right along Rivière des Prairies has a couple of good play structures, some nice spots to picnic, and whole lot of tennis courts!
Actually, while the playground was pretty quiet, the nine tennis courts were packed. (psst, you can reserve a court by calling 514 872-1140).
But, that’s not our thing, playing is! So we checked out the fully fenced and gated playground after visiting the monument to Nicolas Viel. The history of the area is really interesting and you can read more about him, his death and his protegé Auhaïtsic HERE

The fully fenced and gated playground is divided in two, with the toddler area closer to the north end, and the older kids’ climber near the road. Everything is on sand with grassy areas around the edges and while we were there before the trees had leaves, there are massive mature trees which should cast some shade over parts of the play area. There’s also room to run around and accessible picnic tables for snacks.
We visited the large, fairly new, big-kid play structure. And while there are no stairs, my toddler was able to climb one of the ladders to get up to the cool walkway and the slides. Smaller kids will find the intricate ladders too hard, but the toddler climber has good platforms to climb and room to walk around on the top. There are also multiple slides, a steering wheel, and all sorts of ladders.
In the surrounding sand are a couple of metal spring riders, and a little ways away are the baby swings.

We also checked out the super clean accessible chalet and bathrooms which were open, though with no posted hours. It was super early in the season, and during the week, so I’d venture that it’s usually open.
