Old Port Playground

If you’re doing an outing to Montreal’s Old Port, and the kids are tired of you telling them to “HOLD MY HAND!” because of the 50,000 people around; tucked in behind the SOS Labyrinthe building and between the Bassin Bonsecours and the parking for the Clock Tower Beach is a playground where they can run free for a while.

It’s not huge, but there’s a pretty good boat-themed play structure from Little Tikes Commercial, and four baby and four big-kid swings. Also, a whole bunch of picnic tables around for what I’m sure will be a much needed break.

We originally visited this park last summer on our “summer of 2015 tourists in our own city” outing, but the playground had been so packed we hadn’t even stopped. (psst, you can read that review HERE)

So on a freeeeezing afternoon in May, and after having spent hours and hours at the Montreal Science Centre (review to come!), we ambled along and looked at the boats, and then played in the completely empty playground. The boys enjoyed the wooden bridge, the ship’s bow and steering wheel, and jumped across the pods in the “water”. Little kids will be able to climb the (steep) stairs, and there are slides and activity panels for them to try. Or climb through the windows of the boat and look out for sharks!
Everything is on wood chips, there’s minimal shade and NO fencing.
If you want to get directly to the playground, the closest parking is in the lot for the Clock Tower at the end of Rue Quai de l’Horloge.
