Optimiste Park

May 23rd and the splash pad was already open! But….we had no bathing suits. Or towels. *sob*

After a morning in Oka (more on this in another post), and before boarding the ferry home, we decided to stop for some takeout at the Resto Plein Air and have an impromptu picnic at Optimiste Park.
The park is located right on the 344, but you need to go north and around to the parking lot at the end of Rue des Pins and directly in front of École des Pins.

While we’d aimed to eat at the picnic table under the large gazebo, there was just too much garbage, so we opted instead to sit under one of the large trees.
A hot dog or two later and the kids set about exploring the park. The little one stared at the water in the splash pad and exclaimed at the twirling flowers and misty frog from Pointe-Claire’s Vortex. There are also ground jets that make a water tunnel, a dumping bucket and cascading waterfalls. Touch the button on the column HARD to turn on the water sequence.

Next to the chalet (which was not open and didn’t have any hours posted) is a modern metal climber from Kompan on a wood chip base, and closer to the parking lot is the toddler area (also on wood chips) with a ground-level snail house from Jambette, a climber with a mountain wall and a moving ladder to climb, and baby swings. In the chalet we could see a brand new Expression parent-baby swing, which will probably be installed shortly as there was an empty spot waiting for it beside the baby swings.

And if you’ve got a whole crew of kids with you, fear not! There are TWELVE big-kid swings.
There was NO shade over any of the play equipment, but there are some large trees in the grassy bits.

I don’t visit or review school playgrounds, but there were quite a few kids playing in the fun-looking school yard right behind the municipal playground.
