Shamrock Park

This park was completely redone in July 2015 and had JUST re-opened when we visited.
How exciting!
I drove by it a couple of weeks ago and they were just finishing it off, so after bumming around Pincourt one day last week, we passed by and it was open. Yeah!
While the landscaping is rather bleak, the new log house inspired climbers by Little Tykes Commercial are original and creative.

There are three different sections, all pretty close together, with the section for the smallest toddlers by the fenced-off road. The rest is open to the remainder of the park and the baseball fields.
Everything is on sand, which is quite strange for a new park as most municipalities are getting away from sand (because of the wasps) and opting for wood chips or synthetic bases.

The big-kid climber was our favourite, though it is very, very challenging for younger kids. There is an interesting criss-crossed multi-sided rope ladder, a realistic rock climbing wall, metal rungs and ladders, monkey bars, a balance rope; and to get to the slides is the Deck to Deck Bumpy Climber. I tried out the slides which I found kind of painful as the seams in the sections are very bumpy. But maybe it’s just that my bum is too big? (insert sobbing noises). Kid-sized bums should be fine. It was nice to see some new designs and equipment on this climber and big kids should be able to come up with all sorts of games to play on it.

The toddler climber is interesting, but frustrating as there are NO stairs or platforms to get up. Instead there is a very wobbly rope ladder, and three hard to climb metal-rung ladders. My 2 and a half year old was able to get up the ropes with some help, younger kids will find it impossible. If they DO manage to get to the top, there is space to walk around, a couple of slides, and a window to look out. My little guy stayed mostly at ground level and played with the giant abacus, the restaurant window, and the little house window.

THEN, there is the section closest to the road (with fencing) that consists of the ground level little house with a bench, a window, drum, and a steering wheel. There’s also a ride-on horse, and the cutest hippopotamus that they can go into and on top of. Check out the floor of the hippo and you’ll see all sorts of things!
This part of the playground had some good afternoon shade.

There are a few picnic tables and benches scattered around and two sections of swings; baby and big swings near the small climber and just big swings near the big climber.

We would have enjoyed it more had the climbers been more accessible, and maybe some new trees or flowers or something.

p.s. we parked in the small parking spaces off of Shamrock Road, but the playground is actually closer to Rue Frontenac. The chalet with washrooms and water fountain was open while we were there in the late afternoon, but I think it’s usually only open in the evenings when there’s baseball.
