Somerled Park

Ooooooooh. This park was pretty cool. Parking on the street beside the 5 million tennis courts, we skipped past the swings (and one adaptive swing) to the playground with its elaborate big-kid play structure, and nearby toddler area.

The larger GameTime structure has a ton of stuff on which to climb, balance on, and swing from. The slide is tall and steep, and there’s an awesome multi-sided climbing wall. The slide isn’t the easiest to access, so my little guy amused himself with the ground level solar system panel. “This planet is Saturn!”
Hey, he did learn something!

Just beside, and surrounded with benches, is the toddler section (on sand) which has one of our favourite little Kompan products; the Explorer. Here we pretended to play pirates and leaped from our boat onto our waiting dinghies (the nearby spring riders). After escaping from sharks and finding our treasure, we tried out the small climber. With stairs, small slides, a tic-tac-toe wall panel, and a ground-level window, it’s a good size for little people, though not terribly exciting.
Turn the corner of the chalet and near the drinking fountain are some baby swings and a trio of picnic tables with some fencing. The rest of the playground is open to the park and road.

We wandered around and looked at the flower gardens, climbed the small hills that looked like they’d been climbed by many children, and tugged and tugged on the (locked) chalet bathroom door***. I marked “seasonal bathrooms” as a YES, even though it wasn’t open when we were there.

***After I posted this, a helpful reader let me know that when there is an employee at the tennis court (in the little booth in the middle of the courts), you can go ask him-her for the key to the chalet for the bathrooms. Thanks Christine!
I wish they’d put a sign about this on the door, as it would never occur to me to wander over to the courts.
