Strathearn Park

It was a sunny day, there were perfect fluffy white clouds floating by, and we mostly liked this park. A win on all accounts!
Mature trees always make a difference to us in terms of ambiance, and this park has loads which should give some good shade during hot summer days.
There’s no fencing, but the play equipment is all pretty much near the centre of the park with the exception of the water fountain/wading pool (it’s not a splash pad) which is quite close to Strathearn Avenue.

There are two play structures, with one geared towards toddlers 2-5 and one for older children.  The toddler climber from Miracle Recreation has no real easy way to get up to the slides and platforms. There are however giant hula rings, a waffle climber, and the bumpy Tot Rock climber. There are a couple of slides, and underneath is a small sand table. I’d just love to see something that the smallest kids can enjoy like spring riders or a ground level playhouse. Everything here is on wood chips, though there’s a small sandbox nearby.

The larger climber from GameTime also doesn’t have stairs, but there are metal rungs and ladders and a fat pipe climber (open steps). Kids can cross the open Canyon Bridge steps to the double slides.
What they’ll probably be most interested in is the climbing cube from HAGS. With ropes and ladders and a net at the top, we usually see this piece of equipment covered with children. There’s also a new-in-2016 stand up spinner and an interesting double-sided rock climbing wall.
Smack in the middle of everything are the swings which include baby, big-kid, and one adaptive swing.

Scan the QR code on the sign in the park and you’ll be able to watch a podcast about the park’s history courtesy of a student project from Edinburgh Elementary School.
