We visited this park back in 2015 when it was pretty bare-bones and had some flaky and rusty equipment. The playground has since been completely redone and reopened summer 2017. Yay for new stuff!
The entire playground area is fully fenced and gated, with two distinct play “zones”. One for toddlers, and the other with some really challenging play structures for kids 5-12. Or you know…40.
It was a drippy, gloomy day, and the one towel we brought to wipe off the slides was soaked pretty quickly, but the boys tried everything out and gave it four thumbs up. Over on the toddler side is a new sandbox, a cheery and colourful rubber-base section with logs to crawl over and through, and beams to balance on.
Also on sand are three saddle seat spinners, four giant happy critter spring riders (a cricket, bumblebee, ladybug, and snail), four baby swings, and a large play structure. From the Little Tikes Commercial “Iron Mountain Forge” collection is this log cabin/forest-themed climber with stairs, a bridge, log steps and ladders, ground-level drum and bench, and multiple slides. Lots to do and explore and it’ll fit a ton of kids above and below!
Skedaddle across the path and there are the adult swings, a “hang on!” overhead spinner, a stand-up spinner, a neat stand-alone vertical square cable climber, and the very cool play structure. There’s really no easy way up, which my kids took as a challenge to see who could freak me out the most. The NU-Edge X Plank Climb (let’s just call that the V climber) is new to us and quite interesting. There are also rock walls, a wall of logs, ropes, ladders, and once you get to the top: Four different slides. It was all a hit.
On the south side of the chalet, and next to the beautiful Georges-Vanier library and cultural centre is a new splash pad that replaced the outdated wading pool.
Psst, right around the corner are some of the hottest Montreal restaurants like Joe Beef, Liverpool House etc (which are great for ADULT date nights!), but after playing we opted to head to the Atwater Market where we had an amazing feast at their outdoor restaurant area.
Things to note:
-Street parking is available on the surrounding streets but watch the signs, and DON’T park where the curb is painted yellow. A friendly passer-by had to tell me that!
-The splash pad hours are 8am-8pm.
-There IS a chalet with bathrooms, but it was under renovation when we visited. There was a temporary porta-potty in place in the meantime.
