Vivaldi Park

My toddler was completely enamoured with this park. We had no snacks left, I was starving, and he just wouldn’t. leave.

I’ll have to agree with him though. From afar, this looked like a pretty typical new playground with bright colours and the usual equipment. But once we got up close, we noticed all the little musical details and some new-to-us features.

Street parking is available all around the park, and they’ve also added one handicap parking spot next to a cut out on the curb. The same accessible path connects to the water fountain, picnic tables, AND down into the wood chips under the (pretty awesome) sun protection canopy from Shade Systems. Under the large shade structure, which we called a “tent”, are two baby swings, one big-kid swing, and one adaptive swing with a maximum capacity of 125lbs.
It was an amazingly sunny morning when we visited and we were pretty grateful for the shade as the rest of the park is in full, blazing sun; and at 10am and not even 20º the slides were already hot to the touch.

Venturing to the sand area with its equipment from Quebec’s Jambette, we “oooood” and “awwwwwed” at the various musical tributes to the surrounding streets. (You’ll notice Bach, Beethoven, Schubert etc). There are the violin cut outs, the Musical Harmony spring riders and the adorable The Music toddler climber with its decorative keyboard sails.

“The Music” was just pretty perfect for my 3-year old. With a small staircase, a climbing wall, tensile rope ladder and multiple slides; he could easily get up and down on his own. He LOVED the musical chimes and the table underneath with its etched roadways. If only we’d brought some Hot Wheels with us!
Puttering around on top with him as he spied on the mailman through the binoculars, I noticed that the steering wheel seems to be missing from the interior panel, which was a bit odd.

Across from the spinners and spring riders is the larger structure for older kids. Without an easy way up for little legs, it was up to me to test out the hiiiiiiigh ladder, the rope bridge (eek!), the “stairs through the air” and the monkey rings. Ok, I just looked at the monkey rings.

We really liked the play equipment here but would have loved for some more shade over them. Give this park’s trees some time to grow and it will be that much better.

Note: There’s no fencing around any of the park and it’s all kinda close to the road. And while there is some shade and it’s partially wheelchair accessible, I didn’t add those in the tags as it’s a bit too limited.
