Doh! We thought we’d been to every DDO park, but missed this one since it’s not on the city’s main park page AND doesn’t show up on Google Maps.
But while perusing the “calls for tenders” website, I came across a notice that this park was having some work done this summer. So we stalked it, and on our last visit in late August saw that the work was complete!
So now, instead of having just the play structure for older kids, there is an adorable “castle” complete with stairs, a drawbridge, cute stepping stones, and a slide.
While the new structure is on sand, the rest of the equipment is on FireSmart protective surfacing. This is a rubber product that allows grass to grow through while providing cushioning from falls. We’ve only seen it a couple of times, and I’m not sure how I feel about it! It’s clean, makes a park more wheelchair accessible, but it just so….different. I think I’m a creature of habit.
For older kids there’s a play structure from Miracle Recreation with ladders and rungs, and the cute log slide with critters and a treasure map. The rest of the playground has some metal spring riders, and two baby and two big swings.
The park is fenced but with two open gates, and there is ZERO shade. It’s not too far from Marché de l’Ouest which is a great place to grab some fresh fruits and vegetables. Or candy from Bulk Barn!
