Pie XII Park

We’d just finished up an appointment in Saint-Léonard and decided to take a look around before heading home. This park is large, and the playground was empty, so off we went to explore. There’s a small parking lot on Boulevard Lavoisier, but we parked on the other side on Rue Dujarié.

We walked across the basketball court (which could use some refreshing) and found a small playground with two climbers, a couple of spring riders, a spiderweb rope climber and baby swings. But NO big-kid swings. Strange….

The toddler climber has stairs, a nice little walkway, slides, circular steps, and a metal ladder. Unfortunately there are a number of broken elements including what was probably a fun wall panel activity, what must have been a telescope or binoculars, and one of the caps is missing on a post, leaving a rusty metal piece.

In the surrounding sand are three metal spring riders, a couple of baby swings, and then just steps away is the spiderweb rope climber.
The big-kid structure has metal ladders and rungs, a straight up climbing wall with really shallow footholds, slides and a twirly slide. Not huge, but enough to satisfy a couple of kids.
There’s no real fencing around the play area though it is bordered on one side by the municipal pool and wading pool. There are some benches and a couple of picnic tables.

And there’s a HUGE surprise here, there’s a 35 metre long CAVE you can explore! You can read the history behind the cave and its discovery HERE. Check out the description, hours and prices on the Société québécoise de spéléologie’s website HERE (you need to make reservations, and the minimum age is 6). My toddler was too little to be allowed in but I think this would be a great outing with the 8-year old. Spelunking in the city!

Watch this video from Salut Bonjour and you can view the inside:

We didn’t have a chance to see it, but there is also outdoor fitness equipment. Sorry for the lack of pictures!
