de Normanville Park

Wasn’t sure what to expect as this park didn’t look all that large on Google Maps, but WOWZERS! The park has two good playgrounds and a fantastic new splash pad. How good? It’s going into Our Favourites!

Besides the playground and splash pad, you’ll also find a beautiful stone chalet with washrooms, permanent ping-pong tables, pétanque, bocce, lounge chairs, TONS of picnic tables and benches, a green space, and a gorgeous gazebo for concerts and activities.

We arrived around 9:30am and the splash pad with modern products from Aquajeux was already on. I thought they’d head for the playgrounds first, but both boys stripped off their shirts and ran into the water before I could even get their bathing suits out of the bag. There was much shouting and squealing as they ran under the tall spinners, shot each other with the water cannons, and splashed through the “river”. With soft river rocks embedded in the concrete, there’s just enough water to make a very shallow stream. The boys followed its arc and sat down trying to dam the water. I love this sort of surprise feature, adds a nice touch, and little kids always enjoy stomping about.
The splash pad is partially fenced (it used to be a wading pool), but the curbs have been cut through so that the two openings are now wheelchair accessible. There’s plenty of space to sit all along the ledge, or grab one of the lounge chairs or benches nearby.

Edited: We visited too soon! The splash pad will be getting completely painted for the 2018 season. You can see the artist rendering below. Photo from the Facebook page of the Arrondissement de Villeray—Saint−Michel—Parc−Extension.

The playgrounds are close to the water area, but not necessarily with great sight lines, so you’ll probably have to pack up your stuff and move it around with you.
The section for big kids has two super high twirly slides including the 855° Typhoon slide. The only way up is to climb up the ladders of the tricky rock-climbing wall. So….good luck!
There are also six adult swings.
Just past the picnic tables in the middle you’ll find the toddler area with a nice ground-level playhouse complete with musical chimes; a play structure with dino stairs, slides, wall gizmos and ladders; baby swings and the amazing Expression parent-child swing.

Things to note:
-The playgrounds are fenced on three sides, while the rest is open to the park.
-The chalet was open when we visited at 9:30am on a weekend, but there were no posted hours.
-The hours for the splash pad are 9am-11pm. Touch the sensor to turn on the water sequence.

-There is some nice shade near the splash pad, with picnic tables and benches. There are also picnic tables, including toddler-sized, between the two playgrounds.
-Both play areas are on wood chips, except for one small section which is on sand.
